Alice in Wonderland

We're all waiting for Tim Burton's take on Alice in Wonderland. The stars are familiar to Burton, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter that is. They both worked on The Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd, all directed by Burton. Depp has also been in works such as Edward Scissorhands, and Carter has been in Big Fish. Both again directed by Tim Burton.

This however is Tim Burton's first movie in digital 3-D. If we learned anything from Avatar it is that this generation of 3-D technology is redefining the way we experience movies and Alice in Wonderland looks not to disappoint those seeking a visual brain orgy.

All that said, one forgets that Alice in Wonderland is one of the pinnacle treasures of all literature and can and will be studied and read for centuries more.

Lewis Carroll's allegories portrayed by nonsensical characters screamed of political and social hypocrisy and barbarism of the time. The caterpillar is smoking opium, Alice is taking pills to get larger or smaller. And the Hatter is well mad, English for crazy.

So with these great number of artistic geniuses coming together, the movie is sure to have some amazing visual feats, but it also has very high expectations to meet. We'll wait and see.

Don't be late, "for a very important date." Opens March 5th.
